It's your time to shine! The Natrona County Public Library's Poetry Slam for teens and adults will be held at the Metro Coffee Company Saturday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Poets should prepare two or three original poems to read aloud during their three-minute time limit, and will receive a free drink courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries. Don't forget to bring your own audience! The event is free and open to the public.

Performance time is limited, so please sign up in advance at the library or by calling 577-READ ext 2. Poets will need to arrive and check in at 6:15 the night of the event.

Craft of the Toymaker: Lloyd Nelson's Toys

You may have noticed the colorful toys lined up in the library display windows in September, and again this month. They were made by Lloyd Nelson, a mechanical engineer who held 27 patents related to high-speed food processing machinery. Upon retirement, he applied his mechanical skills to designing toys, some of which won national woodworking awards!

Learn more about this mechanical genius and toymaker on Monday, November 21 at 6:30pm in the Crawford Room. Lloyd's toys will be on display through November 30, viewable during regular library hours. Call 577-READ for more information.

Family Night: Thankful Turkeys

Family Night at the library will feature a "Thankful Turkeys" craft program Tuesday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Crawford room. Make a fun and festive craft together and get in the holiday spirit by writing about things for which you are thankful. Dinner will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Both families and individuals are welcome to participate.

NCPL is committed to offering programs that strengthen families and our community. For more information about this event, please call 577-READ ext. 2.

Estate Planning Workshop

A free Estate Planning workshop will be held at the Natrona County Public Library Wednesday, November 30th at 6:30 p.m. in the Crawford room. Diane Payne of Hilltop Bank will go over the importance of estate planning, and its various steps and areas of concern. The program is free and open to the public. Please call 577-READ ext. 2 for more information.

Food for Fines Drive

The Natrona County Public Library (NCPL) will hold its annual Food for Fines drive December 1-15, during which library users may donate nonperishable food items to pay off their accrued library fines. The promotion applies to late fees on books and other library items, and does not include fees for lost or damaged items or collection accounts.

To participate, bring canned food to any NCPL branch, including the bookmobile, between December 1 and 15. All collected food will be donated to Joshua's Storehouse.

Gingerbread House Workshops

All the fun of making a gingerbread house with none of the hassle and cleanup! The Natrona County Public Library is offering a Gingerbread Open House for families on Sunday, December 11. Gingerbread building materials and decorations will be available in the Crawford room from 1-4 p.m. Families and individuals can stop by at their leisure to participate in this free event.
