Children's Library Expands to Second Floor
08/01/2011 - Casper, Wyoming – The Natrona County Public Library (NCPL) building is running out of room, particularly for children's services. In early August, about one-third of children's books will be moved to the second floor of the main library.
All non-fiction books, both children's and adult works will then be found on the second floor.
Children's nonfiction books are those that school age children use to explore their world, complete school projects or learn new facts. When the 2011-12 school year begins, children and parents will be able to find these books on the second floor along with adult non-fiction books.
"Despite running out of room in our building, we are still committed to doing our best to serve Natrona County residents," said Library Director Bill Nelson. "As always, your librarians are available to help students find the information they need to succeed in schoolwork and to enrich their lives."
Over the years NCPL's picture books have become difficult to find due to crowding. Moving children's nonfiction books will allow the library to add book bins to the children's department which will allow children to flip through books and easily find the ones that interest them.
"An important part of NCPL's work in the community is to help prepare children for learning how to read and write," said Nelson. "One way we do this is by making picture books and early reading materials easily accessible for parents and children."
After the move in August, all fiction works for children, including chapter books for older readers and picture books for those just learning to read, will remain in the children's department, located in the library basement. Nonfiction picture books for the youngest readers will also be located downstairs in the book bins.
Parents and children looking for reading suggestions, assistance with school projects and research aids may ask librarians either in the children's department or at the second floor help desk.
