02/01/2011 - A new TV series being produced by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and Orion Multimedia will follow children and their families as they discover hunting and fishing adventures throughout Wyoming. The series will begin airing nationally on the Sportsman Channel in 2012. The show's producers are looking for young people and their families who would like to be part of the show.

Call of the Wild: Generation Next in Wyoming is part of the WGFD's efforts to recruit and retain hunters and anglers in Wyoming and to promote outdoor opportunities throughout the state. "To showcase all the attractions that our beautiful state has to offer to a national audience is a fantastic opportunity," says Eric Keszler, public information officer for the WGFD. "Hunting and fishing participation is declining all across the country, and we don't want to see that happen in Wyoming. Hunters and anglers are our most ardent conservationists and contribute more to conservation and wildlife management than any other sector of our society. One of our main goals with this series is to awaken today's youth to the need to explore the magic that awaits in the outdoors."

The host of this groundbreaking series will be nationally known author, lecturer, and teacher Craig Conrad, famed for his weekly "Friday Stories" and his inspiring presentation, "The Unstoppable You." Conrad has been inspiring students with his enthusiasm for decades. His 26-year, innovative and energetic teaching career earned him six nominations for the Who's Who Best Teachers in America, the receipt of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching from Colorado Gov. Roy Romer, and the first-ever Tradition of Excellence Award. His teaching methods have been featured on the ABC and NBC evening news programs, and CBS's The Early Show. Most important, though, are all the students he has inspired to go from listening to his stories to living them.

Denver-based Orion Multimedia is the world's leader in outdoor adventure programming. "The state of Wyoming has drawn a clear connection between growing stakeholder involvement with its fishing and hunting opportunities and its ability to manage outdoor resources into the future," says Orion Multimedia President Chris Dorsey. "Other states that hope to secure the future of their fish and wildlife management programs would do well to follow Wyoming's lead."

The show's producers will begin open casting calls for personable, active, vibrant young people who possess a love of the outdoors, and who are eager to be introduced to it, throughout the state of Wyoming in the months of January and February. Casting call locations and dates will be announced soon.
