The Platte River Family Practice

Are you one of the 20-30% of people in our community who has no primary care provider? Does a little one's case of strep throat or croup take you on a costly trip to the emergency room? Are you looking for a unique family practice that caters to your needs while giving you the best of care? Then head to the River -- Platte River Family Practice, that is.

Upon arriving at their clinic, you will be greeted by beautifully tasteful décor, light-hearted music, and friendly office staff. You will also be given a listening ear and quality up to date medical advice and care by partners Amy Gruwell, nurse practitioner and Paula Coates, registered nurse.

Amy and Paula wanted to offer a more personalized approach to medicine so they opened Platte River Family Practice in June of 2009. Since that time, they have built a very successful team of nurse practitioners and a clientele of over 1800 patients!

Amy, who received her master's degree from the University of Wyoming in 2004, explains that as a family nurse practitioner she sees people of all ages from infants on up. In fact, her oldest patient will be 100 later this month! Amy is trained and licensed to diagnose and treat illnesses including writing prescriptions, ordering tests, and making referrals.

Paula, who is a registered nurse, received her education at Casper College and finished her program in 1991. She does all of the things you expect of a nurse plus so much more. Besides taking blood pressure and administering vaccinations, Paula also orders supplies, manages the nursing staff, does the scheduling, and makes follow up calls.

There are so many qualities that make Platte River Family Practice different from any other clinic. They are staffed by nurse practitioners who genuinely listen and care. They care so much that they work to accommodate people when they can come in for an appointment. This means they take their lunch from 1-2 so working clients can be seen on their own lunch hour if needed. And even though office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30-5:00, Amy and Paula will see patients in the evenings or even on a Saturday if necessary. They also work very hard to get people in on a same-day basis, especially if they are a pediatric patient or require immediate attention.

Platte River Family Practice is one of the few medical offices left on the ever dwindling list of providers that still sees Medicare and Medicaid patients and they are committed to keep doing this. They are also one of the few practices that still collect co-pays from their patients and bill their insurance for the rest.

Besides providing checkups, sports physicals, and on-site lab services, Platte River Family Practice is a member of the Wyoming Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. This program provides free wellness exams to women who qualify. In addition, Amy can give you her expert advice on the use of bioidentical hormones to treat menopause and andropause. She says the use of these plant-based natural hormones statistically results in less cancer, stroke, heart attacks, and blood clots.

Amy and Paula hope for continued growth of their practice. In order to better serve the community they want to hire one or two new nurse practitioners as soon as possible, and they are currently seeking applicants. If you are interested in working with a great team, or if you would like to inquire about becoming a patient, give them a call at 307-577-7737 today. They are located across from Hospice at 301 South Fenway, Suite 202 and would love to hear from you.
