Wyoming Game and Fish Department Seeking Nominations for Youth Stewardship Awards

06/01/2010 - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking nominations for Wyoming youth who have demonstrated citizenship, stewardship and ethical behavior while participating in fishing, hunting, shooting and outdoor-related activities.

Wyoming youth can be nominated for the Youth Hunter Skills and Wildlife Stewardship award or the Youth Fishing Skills and Conservation Ethics award. The awards commemorate those who exemplify skills, ethical and responsible conduct in the outdoors and wildlife stewardship. Awards will be presented at the 2010 Expo in September. Youth nominated for the Youth Hunter Skills and Wildlife Stewardship award must:

Demonstrate the ability to be a safe and ethical hunter practicing the concepts of fair chase

Demonstrate an interest in and knowledge of the importance of shooting proficiency in the hunting experience

Demonstrate the ability and interest in being a good steward in the conservation of wildlife through community service, volunteerism, assisting private and public landowners, youth organizations, etc.

Demonstrate good citizenship in school and in their community

Use the awarded hunting experience to further the conservation of wildlife, concepts of fair chase and the tradition of hunting within their peer group.

The individual selected for this award will receive a hunting trip donated by the Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association and sponsors of Expo 2010. Nominee must be a junior high or high school student between the ages of 14-19; be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the awarded hunt; possess a valid Hunter Education card at the time of his/her nomination; must have prior shooting experience and proficiency; acquire and possess a valid, current year hunting license for the species being hunted; and have participated in at least two hunting seasons of any kind prior to the 2010 hunting season.

Young people nominated for the Youth Fishing Skills and Conservation Ethics award must demonstrate the ability to be an ethical and safe angler; demonstrate the ability and interest in being a good steward in the conservation of fish and aquatic wildlife through community service, volunteerism, assisting private and public landowners, youth organizations, etc; and demonstrate good citizenship in school and in their community.

The individual selected for this award will receive a fishing trip award. Nominees must be a Wyoming junior high or high school student between the ages of 14-19; be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the awarded trip; acquire and possess a valid, current year fishing license; and have participated in at least two fishing seasons prior to the 2010 Expo.

Youth can be nominated by instructors, teachers, parents, mentors, civic leaders and peers from the community of Wyoming's wildlife enthusiasts.
