04/01/2010 - Family Night: Meet Arctic Explorer Pam Flowers

Pam Flowers was in her 40s when she decided to quit her job to mush dogs across the Arctic. She believes you're never too young to have a dream and never to old to fulfill it.

Family Night at the library will offer a chance to meet the author and arctic explorer Pam Flowers on Wednesday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Crawford room. Pam will share slides and stories from her solo 2,500-mile dog mushing expedition across the arctic from Barrow, Alaska to Repulse Bay, Canada.

The event is free, fun for all ages, and gives families an opportunity to spend time together in a positive environment. Dinner will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Please call 577-READ ext 2 for more information.

Antique Evaluation Workshop

Would you like to know what your old furniture, dishes and collectibles might be worth? A free Antique Evaluation Workshop will be held at the Natrona County Public Library Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. in the Crawford room. Bring your antiques and heirlooms for information and evaluations provided by Liane Chapman and Dennis Ridgeway of Wyoming Estate Services. For more information please call 577-READ ext 2.

No Girls Allowed: Game On!

Calling all Dads! If you'd like an opportunity to spend time with your boys having fun in a positive atmosphere, the library's "No Girls Allowed" programs are designed for you. The library will hold "Game On!" for boys in grades 4-6 and their fathers, grandpas, uncles and other male role models Saturday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Natrona County Public Library.

Snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Library. "No Girls Allowed" programs help boys connect to the men in their lives, emphasizing the types of activities and books that boys enjoy. Call 577-READ for more information.

Death Vs. Public Speaking

Would you like to get over your fears of public speaking, become more confident and articulate in both personal and professional life? You might want to learn more about Toastmasters International. Happy Birthday Library!

Children and families are invited to attend a birthday party in honor of NCPL's 100th year, complete with cake, activities, and beloved book characters Clifford and Hank the Cow Dog. Parents may bring cameras to capture a photo with Clifford or Hank. The party starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Crawford Room.

A second celebration for children will be held at the Mills branch library Thursday, May 6 at 4 p.m., also featuring Clifford and Hank as special guests.

Meet the Author: Craig Johnson

Wyoming Author Craig Johnson has written a number of well-loved mysteries including "The Cold Dish" and "Another Man's Moccasins." Meet the author and learn about his inspirations for the newest Walt Longmire mystery, "Junkyard Dogs" to be released May 27, 2010.

Johnson will be at the Natrona County Public Library Tuesday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in the Crawford Room as part of the library's 100th Anniversary celebrations. Copies of Johnson's books will be available for purchase.

Meet the Author: Walter Jones

Author, historian and former NCPL librarian Walter Jones has written a history of the Natrona County Public Library to coincide with the library's 100th anniversary. The book titled "A Window to the World: The First 100 Years of the Natrona County Public Library" will be available for purchase beginning May 1.

Jones will speak about the library's history and what he has learned through his research on Thursday, April 8, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Crawford Room. The event is sponsored by the Natrona County Historical Society. Jones will also speak at the final celebration on May 20. Meet the Author: C.J. Box

Would you like to meet Casper native and favorite author C.J. Box, learn how he finds information for his mystery novels and ask about his newest adventures? Box will be helping to celebrate the Natrona County Public Library's 100th anniversary during a "Meet the Author" event Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. in the Crawford room. Box's newest Joe Pickett novel "Nowhere to Run" was released April 6th.

Meet the Author: John Erickson

Hank the Cow Dog is a beloved character among kids and adults alike. Children and families won't want to miss the chance to meet author John Erickson who has written over 52 books featuring Hank, his timid sidekick Drover, his sworn enemy Pete the Barncat, and their adventures on the M-Cross ranch. He not only wrote the books but also performs the songs included in the audio versions of his stories. Erickson will speak and perform at the Natrona County Public Library Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. to help celebrate the library's 100th Anniversary.

Books will be available for purchase after the event, and attendees are welcome to bring their own Hank the Cow Dog favorites to be signed by the author. For more information on the library's 100th Anniversary events, call 577-READ or visit www.natronacountylibrary.org.
