Hilltop Family Dental

10/01/2007 - "I have to be on the cutting edge," says Dr. Kent Doing of Hilltop Family Dental. "I'm a techno-freak,"

When you're a dentist, being a techno-freak is a good thing. When you're the patient of one, that's an excellent thing. You know you're getting the best, most up-to-date dental care possible.

The entire Hilltop Dental Office is cutting-edge, professional, and friendly. Take routine dental procedures, for instance. X-rays are entirely digital. No film. Exposure to radiation is 1/5 the amount of radiation from film x-rays. Digital x-rays are "developed" immediately and can be accessed from every computer in the office.

By every computer in the office I mean every computer in the office. Each patient-station has its own computer. That way, if Dr. Doing is occupied in a room away from the patient who just got the x-rays, he can read them from right where he is, with just a few strokes on the keyboard.

Also, each patient in each room can watch his own separate monitor. He can watch a patient-education video or be entertained by cable TV.

Yes, even while you're sitting in a dental chair, you can relax in front of the tube and mutter, "Life is good." Especially if you're in Dr. Kent Doing's dental chair.

Kent smiles when he tells me that most of the dentists in town good-naturedly let him be the first to use the latest technology or dentistry innovations. They laugh and tell Kent that if it works in his practice, then they'll use it in their own.

A dentist for 27 years, Kent doesn't mind being the cutting-edge guy. "I need to have a challenge," he tells me.

Hilltop Family Dental is a full-service dentist office. They offer routine cleanings and x-rays, of course. And if a patient comes in with a cavity, he can still get a plain old filling. Well not exactly a plain, old filling. It won't be silver. It'll be tooth-colored. Kent tells me that tooth-colored fillings are about the same price as those old-fashioned silver jobbies. And a lot nicer looking.

Here are just a few of the state-of-the-art procedures that Dr. Doing's office can do: (1) Laser surgery, which offers many benefits including better healing, (2) a cad cam so that a porcelain crown can be measured, designed, made, and "installed" in just one appointment, (3) a teeth-straightening process called Invisiline that has no old-fashioned metal braces or brackets, (4) installation of titanium root anchors for patients who need a better fit for a bridge or dentures, and (5) so many other cool state-of -the-art dental procedures that I can't name them all in the space we have here.

Kent had his state-of-the-art facility built in 2004. It's located in a strip of medical buildings on the north side of East Second Street just west of the Hilltop Shopping Center. Their office number is 473-1889. Wait-time from calling for an appointment and getting into the dentist's chair can be about 6 weeks, so Dr. Doing encourages us to plan ahead and call early.
