10/01/2007 - "I was in the pew with a broken heart, wearing a happy mask," Ruth Graham told me in a phone interview recently. "This is where my heart for ministry is. Focusing on those in the church who have been wounded and on those who want to help them journey through brokenness to restoration."

Ruth Graham, third child of evangelist Billy Graham and name sake of her late mother, will be the guest speaker for the Casper Youth for Christ's Second Annual "Reaching the Every" Fundraising Dinner at the Casper Events Center on Saturday November 10. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will start at 6:30 p.m. The event's honoree is Terry Winship, CEO of Care-net Pregnancy and Resource Clinic.

Ruth Graham has experienced brokenness first hand and knows, first hand, how difficult it is for those in the church to find guidance and help from the church body.

"I don't want to criticize, but we tend to marginalize the brokenhearted and we don't minister to them very well."

Ruth hopes to change that through her two ministries, Ruth Graham Ministries and Ruth Graham and Friends, which provide "a Biblical perspective to her journey of faith."

In Ruth's transparent testimony, she tells about her personal experiences with brokenness. Her husband's infidelities, her divorces, her teenage daughter's unplanned pregnancies, and her son's struggle with drug use.

"We have so many broken families and troubled youth," Ruth says. "But growth comes in the most difficult places."

In addition to her nationwide conferences, Ruth focuses on writing. Her books include In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart, So You Want to Adopt…Now What?, and, with Dr. Sara Dormon, I'm Pregnant…Now What? Heartfelt Advice on Getting Through an Unplanned Pregnancy.

To reserve tickets (which are free) or to host a table, contact Janet of Casper Youth for Christ at 235-6650.
