Three Crowns Golf Club

04/01/2006 - "People will travel to Casper just to play Three Crowns Golf Club," says David Raper, on site representative for OB Sports, a golf management company contracted by the Amaco Reuse Agreement Joint Powers Board (ARAJPB) to oversee the daily operations of Three Crowns Golf Club.

The ARAJPB (representing both Natrona County and the City of Casper) is responsible for the management of the Platte River Commons of which Three Crowns Golf Club is the centerpoint.

After the Amaco Oil Refinery closed and the property was vacant for some time the ARAJPB appointed a committee to oversee the cleanup of the location. It was decided at that time to put a golf course there.

"Central Wyoming is very fortunate to have a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. (a world class golf architect) designed daily fee golf course available to the public," David adds.

Three Crowns is a full service facility consisting of an on site golf shop (brand name mens/womens apparel, equipment, shoes, etc.), The Filling Station Restaurant (casual dining, moderately priced, great service, friendly atmosphere, wonderful views), and of course, the beautiful golf course! Resident pros David Raper and Paul Hefner are available to instruct. "We encourage golfers at all levels to come and experience Three Crowns Golf Club, Wyoming's finest public golf course," David says.

Three Crowns Golf Club opened for golf May 20, 2005. At that time the facility consisted of a temporary clubhouse with a snackbar serving beverages, sandwiches, etc. "We're excited about the new facilities available this year," David beams.

Three Crowns was appropriately named for the oil industry representing three different grades of gasoline the Red Crown, the White Crown and the Gold Crown. The Filling Station Restaurant was also cleverly named in keeping with the same theme. "Our motto is 'A New Standard', a play on the gasoline industry but also describing the service and professionalism we offer," David explains.

Chef Rocky Phipps hails from California and has experience in high end country clubs, The Queen Mary, and catering for Hollywood. "Rocky brings to us some new ideas and culinary skills," David says. See page 19 for the recipe to one of Rocky's specialty dishes.

Full service kitchen facilities are available Monday through Saturday during golf season (April 1st through October 31st weather permitting). Be sure to check out the fabulous Easter and Mother's Day brunches!

The restaurant is managed by David's wife of 11 years, Debbie Raper. David describes this as a "great fit". In fact, David and Debbie met when she was working at a restaurant in a golf facility where David began his golf career. Our community has seen many successful family operated businesses and we congratulate David and Debbie on the outstanding job they are doing. Three Crowns Golf Club is located within the Platte River Commons at 1601 King Blvd. and can be reached by phone at 472-7694.
