Above the Street Dance to Rock Downtown Aug. 6
07/01/2005 - Downtown Casper will be rocking from the rooftops Saturday August 6th, so grab some lawn chairs and blankets to sit on and bring the entire family to the downtown parking garage.
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in conjunction with the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Casper will host the first annual Above the Street Dance on the roof of the downtown parking garage.
The event is free to the public and will feature six talented local bands playing back-to-back from noon to 6:00 p.m. Food and drinks will be available and many downtown merchants will operate booths.
"It's just a really cool venue for the whole family to hang out and watch bands," DDA Executive Director and event organizer Kurt Box said of the parking garage roof. "The view is awesome and the bands are all top notch."
Six local bands are booked to perform at the Above the Street Dance. At noon, 3 Chord Max will kick off the festivities with rock, classic rock, blues and country tunes. Chad Lore, one of Casper's favorite one-man entertainers, will perform at 1:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m., Jester's Court will hit the stage rockin'. Tom Coryell & The Incorrigibles will take center stage at 3:00 p.m. with their unique blend of blues and jazz. The Tremors, one of Casper's most enduring and endearing bands will perform at 4:00 p.m. The Eli Manor Band will close out the afternoon beginning at 5:00 p.m. with their patented power blues style.
The parking garage will be free and anyone will be able to park anywhere in the garage and take an elevator or stairs to the roof. Both entrances to the parking garage (from Wolcott and Center Streets) will be open.
Door prizes donated by downtown merchants will be given away in between every performance.
Box said he realizes the roof of a concrete structure may be a little hot on an early August afternoon, so he has arranged for a large awning to provide shade and a large water misting machine so attendees can cool off.
"We're hoping this thing can become an annual downtown event," Box said.
