As the burden of poor health affects individuals and families, so too does it affect the workplace. Healthcare costs skyrocket, sick days increase and overall work performance suffers.

Obesity is a health epidemic labeled by the Centers for Disease Control as "public enemy number one." A serious health issue, obesity leads to chronic diseases such as Type II diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease. Those who struggle with chronic disease experience greater difficulty when recovering from a cold or illness and are more likely to suffer from a heart attack, stroke or even certain forms of cancer.

In response to this epidemic, Wyoming Medical Center (WMC) offers the weight control program Ideal Protein. Unlike other Ideal Protein distributors in Casper, WMC is the only one that provides medical expertise during the use of this weight loss program. This is a food plan with more than 50 gourmet meal options that uses an effective four-phase weight-loss method to burn fat while maintaining muscle and increasing energy levels.

"Ideal Protein teaches a person the importance of making healthier eating habits while still enjoying their food," said Tamara Hawk, weight management director at WMC. "It is a program designed to give the individual food choices that not only taste good but help them lose unwanted and unhealthy pounds."

Each of the four Ideal Protein phases is a level of weight management education for individuals on the plan. Participants learn how to eat fats, carbs and proteins, so that a person can lose and then maintain their goal weight. WMC medical staff supports participants and provides medical guidance during each phase:

● Phases 1 and 2: Weight loss

● Phase 3: Reintroduction of carbohydrates

● Phase 4: Maintenance

"Our staff is on hand to support Ideal Protein participants when they have questions during all of the phases," Hawk said. "This medical expertise is important because losing weight is about more than your waistline. It is about making positive choices that ultimately result in living healthier and living longer."
