Around Our Town...If These Walls Could Talk

10/01/2005 - With the summer months behind us and winter quickly closing in, many of us turn inward to our homes and begin to think of the up coming Holiday season. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just moments away and there are a variety of do-it-yourself decorating ideas to help incorporate these seasons into your home.

Table arrangements are by far one of the best and most inexpensive ways to spruce up any room. Table arrangements bring color and life into a room while temporarily transforming it into the time of year you want to reflect.

Below are just a few ideas to get you going.

Here's what you will need:

1. Medium-size pumpkin

2. Flowers, sprigs of bittersweet, leaf stems, and twigs

3. Metal soup can or similar container

4. Sharp knife

5. Large spoon for scooping out seeds

In the top of the pumpkin carve out the top just slightly larger the diameter of the can you are using. Discard the top of the pumpkin and using your spoon clean out all of the seeds and flesh. Wedge the can into the opening and fill it about of the way with water. Arrange your flowers and stems as you wish in the can cutting the stems as needed to create different heights fullness in your arrangement. Water daily and enjoy!!
